December Friday 7th 2018 DJ Zulu @ Funkytown Chengdu

Decided to leave the hustle and bustle of Shanghai for a few days, I headed to the Wild wild West for a bit longer than a weekend. Well, a place I’ve never been before in China: Chengdu city, capital of Sichuan Province (the land of pandas, spicy food and beautiful women, some people say)

One of the main reasons for my visit was a couple of bookings, including a gig at a small bar in the center called Funkytown.

Every DJ loves Funkytown. Cause yeah, it’s incredibly small. It’s incredibly crowded in and out and it’s also extremely fun to pass by or work there. Real DJs love authentic places over business, hype, glamour and popularity in a similar fashion as how real food lovers choose restaurants.

The day after i joined an underground event in the parking lot of a shopping mall with about 20 other DJs, where local hip-hop dancers, poppers and lockers took over the improvised dancefloor for an epic battle. It was really interesting to see these scenes growing strong and healthy in such a remote place!

In overall: I made a few friends, caught a massive cold (plan to go to see the pandas cancelled), tried some good food.. yes spicy. And yes, women are very beautiful too.

Chengdu will be a “funky town” as long as those young event organizers and local DJs keep pushing forward with their unconditional love for music.

It was good to be there!

Friday 11th 2018 DJ Zulu @ Migas Mercado Beijing

Inspired by traditional Barcelona food markets, Migas Mercado is a big bustling multi-spaced complex overlooking Beijing’s iconic landmarks.

Occupying a prime spot of the new China World Mall’s top floor, Migas Mercado is bringing Migas’ fun-loving Mediterranean vibes to the CBD. The space is inspired by the famous markets of Barcelona (‘mercado’ is Spanish for ‘market,’ FYI), and is set to feature Migas’ award-winning Spanish gastronomy and mouth-watering cocktails alongside a picture-perfect view of Beijing’s iconic CCTV Headquarters. So whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or long, riotous Friday night, grab a drink and enjoy.

I had a great time playing at the (in my humble opinion) best music spot in the Beijing’s nightlife.

They have an eclectic program with different music styles every day of the week (except sundays). Mondays and tuesdays are dedicated to current latin social dances like salsa and kizomba. Wednesdays to afro-house, while weekends are open to all sorts of funky rhythms for the dancefloor.

Being a native from Barcelona, I felt like at home at Migas.

Many thanks to María And Ciccio for the hospitality!
